A CONDUIT OF GRACE (The Sacrament of Matrimony)

A CONDUIT OF GRACE
(Sacramental Marriage)

Too often it’s been found that love,
No matter how sublime,
Cools the heat of ardor,
When ill winds bear testing times.

Neither pledge nor promise,
Nor plighting troth suffice,
To love, honor and cherish,
Without self sacrifice.

Love comes with no guarantees,
That present bliss won’t pale,
As the cross grows heavier,
Marriage vows can flail.

If God is not a witness to,
The oaths the two will swear,
Wedding vows are easily,
Renounced should either err.

The dreary drag of custom,
Can douse the keenest blaze,
Hence this wondrous Sacrament,
Is Christ’s conduit of grace.
