SISTERS THREE

Summer has arrived at last,
May blooms in every hue,
One by one the boarders leave,
We bid our friends adieu.

We dance along the corridors,
We leap down from the stairs,
Gripped in a fevered frenzy,
We breathe the heady air.

We giggle and we frolic,
Build castles on the shore,
We lie on pristine beaches,
And watch the seagulls soar.

Too soon will childhood laughter,
Become a memory,
Each of us eventually,
Will start a family.

We grow ever closer,
Confiding joys and woes,
Celebrating blessings,
That God on each bestows.

The fabric of our sisterhood,
Will rend apart when He,
Calls one of us to heaven,
Now two are left of three.

Together you and I my dear,
Will keep alive the flame,
Of our sister’s memory,
Each time we speak her name.

Heaven’s Gain

How hard it is,
To deny the sigh,
Ineffectually,
Trying not to cry,
As we relive,
The memory of you.

Our loss,
Is heaven’s gain.

Every teardrop,
Flowing quietly,
Must surely fall,
Upon your cheek.

Yet all’s not lost,
In a spellbound
Moment,
You are near,

We see the smile
In dimpled cheek,
We hear the laugh
We loved so well,
The voice,
The puckish wit.

You live on,
In the children
That you bore.
Beloved sister mine,
Whom we did love
So tenderly.

Yes,
Lost in time,
But never lost to us,
Sweet sister mine,
In eternity.

A Wedding Blessing - Lindsay & Denzil

A vision in white lace and satin,
Serenely she walked up the aisle,
That reminiscent smile of her mother’s,
Brought tears to many an eye.

The charming young groom at the altar,
Looked tenderly down at his bride,
Their eyes locked together a moment,
As she took her place by his side.

The sacred words chosen from Scripture,
Each hymn that was sung made it clear,
Their covenant vows to each other,
Would seal them in Christ evermore.

We prayed that this newlywed couple,
Made one now as husband and wife,
Be granted the gifts of patience and love,
And laughter midst challenge or strife.

May they always know joy without ceasing
May their troubles be fleeting and few
May the Lord bless and keep them forever
In His love ever faithful and true.

HALLOWED MEMORIES - HAPPY BIRTHDAY SANDY

The restless, rustling russet leaves,
In frenzy swirl  around my feet,
The balmy winds are fragrant sweet,
With just a touch of summer heat.

The sparrows dart from tree to tree,
They twitter and they chirp in glee,
And every now and then is heard,
The crystal tweet of migrant bird.

It seems like only yesterday,
We watched the breeze and birds at  play,
Our hearts in sync were raised in praise,
Then came the parting of our ways.

I walk along the corridor,
Alone where we once walked before,
And in fond memories, I’ve found,
We meet again on hallowed ground.

19th July 2012

We walked a short distance together each day from the car into the office building and we parted when Sandy went to her office and I to mine.  She continues to walk with me in memory everyday as I picture her at my side.   Happy Birthday sister mine.

WE WILL REMEMBER

OUR BELOVED SANDY GIRL
WHO WENT HOME TO GOD
ON HOLY SATURDAY
03 APRIL 2010

"Weeping may linger for the night but joy comes in the morning." (Psalm 30:5)

Relentless time moves on,
Blunting in its wake,
The agonizing razor’s edge,
Of stupefying loss,
And heartrending sorrow.

No longer does our weeping,
Scorch and blind,
But often times a rush of tears,
Can fall  as we recall,
A poignant memory.

There is a time to grieve,
A time to mourn,
But healing comes unfailingly,
As comes anew each dawn,
Life has to run its course.

The sting of death lies withered,
By His empty tomb,
Hope promises we'll meet again
In our Father's house,
In His tomorrow.

THE BRIDE - DESIREE

Standing on the threshold of today,
She casts a smiling glance
At yesterday.
Brimming with expectant joy,
She pauses just a while,
Before she steps into
The promise of tomorrow.

Dark and night are left behind,
The play of light upon her face
Stir memories to life,
And once again are seen,
Her mother’s smile, Her mother’s eyes,
Her mother’s impish sense of fun,
Provoking much delight.

Streams of blessings overflow,
Directed by her mother’s hand,
Now clasped in Christ’s,
They pour from Him through her,
To this her first born child,,
Who scintillates in creamy lace,
And satin soft and white.

The Door to Life Anew

 Profound is our distress,
As we keep sacred vigil ,
Round your bed.

No cry escapes your lips,

  Skin cleaves to bones,
Your body deathly still.

Your soul prepares for flight,

One journey ends,
Another soon begins.

Each says a last goodbye,

I lift your hand and place it,
One more time against my lips.

You meet my gaze

We make a silent pledge
That we will meet again.

Faith the sentinel to Love,

Declares death but a sign,
Abundant Life goes on.

The End of A Lament

No kindred soul to twine with mine.
You’ve gone and I  have yet to find affinity,
A discerning of the idiom that I speak.
I‘ve striven hard to breach the wall,
Sighing wistfully as shutters fall, veils drop,
Forming tangible yet unseen,
Silken yet impenetrable barriers,
Impeding my approach.

No sister friend to speak with me again,
As once we did with look and word.
Our hearts in tandem yoked to Him,
Who tenderly  draws all unto Himself.
The endless void shimmers with an ache,
Alone, bereft, I yearn to know again
The passion that we shared in our discourse
Of Him whose Name is Love

A fragrance tangled in a myriad memories,
Is unleashed and hope untrammelled brims,
As I recall my daughter’s face alight with ardour,
When she speaks of Him, whose Name is Love.
All at once my mournful lament ends,
And I begin to sing again for I have found
In this dear daughter mine,
A second 'sister friend.'

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SANDY GIRL

How best shall we remember,
You who touched our lives,
In ways too many to recount?

To me you will remain forever,
Closer than a friend, my confidante.
When in need to you I came,
For wisdom and for truth.

A myriad memories,
Entwine and meld our hearts as one,
For we walked both years and miles together.

Sometimes I carried you,
For oft I found,
My shoulders were much stronger.

The borders of my heart being wider,
Wrapped itself around your own,
Sweet sister mine.

The tears still flow,
I gasp in pain when I recall my loss.
Then dawns the thought of you in heaven,
And I smile.

Hey There Sandy Girl!

It’s been a year my Sandy girl,
How swiftly time has passed,
Each melancholy memory,
Returns to haunt my heart.

A singularly wistful year,
Trying to comprehend,
How  blest I’ve been to have you,
As my confidante and friend.

How rich has been your legacy,
Of courage, grace and wit,
Your patience in adversity,
Your serenity and grit.

In dreams I’ve see you often,
Laughing in delight,
Radiant, joyous, beautiful,
Aglow with God’s own light.

Hey there Sandy girl, when time
Shall cease to be for me,
We’ll live together You and I
One in Christ's company.

LEGACY

Reflecting on her life I see,
With greater clarity,
How brave and gallantly,
She faced all adversity.

Grit and firm resolve were writ,
Large upon her face,
Every challenge she would meet,
With dignity and grace.

Her loyalty was striking,
She drew her strength from God,
Through Him she found her courage,
To live her life unbowed.

Life’s riddles have been answered,
No shadows now remain,
Embraced by Love eternally
She’ll never more know pain.

PRAISING GOD FOR HER

It’s time to make a joyful noise,
In praise of God our Maker,
Drawing near the Throne of grace,
Thanking our Creator.
For the precious gift that He,
Bestowed on us a while,
By giving us this treasure,
In the land of our exile.

Every day since she’s been gone,
We’ve felt the pain of loss,
Together we have helped each other,
Share and bear the cross.
Although we weep in secret,
Our gratitude is strong,
For the treasury of memories,
We will reverence life long.

Leaving a living legacy,
In her daughter’s dimpled smiles,
Her impish sense of fun is seen,
In her firstborn child.
The youngest of her girls' displays,
Her grit and fortitude,
And we can trace her warmth and charm,
In her son’s attitude.

Let’s praise the Lord together,
For the love and laughter shared,
For the memories we treasure,
That will ease the years ahead.
We’ll speak of her with gladness,
Though tears may mist our eyes,
Thanking God we’ll meet again,
In the sweet by and by.

THE BRIDE OF THE LAMB - I wrote this poem as a tribute to my beloved sister Sandra who showed us how to live and to die. She will be remembered as one who lived her life with grace and courage and above all selfless love. She left to be with God on 03 April 2010 (Holy Saturday)

The Lord has turned my mourning into dancing,
He carried me from darkness into light,
Joy rode the dawn and on that glorious morning,
The Lamb appeared to claim me for His bride.

I have forgotten all my days of sorrow,
My bed in which my body racked with pain,
The painful agony of my life’s ended,
Consumed are faith and hope, but love remains.

The cross that Jesus Christ placed on my shoulder,
Hewn from the one He bore at Calvary,
Would often seem too great for me to carry,
Had He not walked each painful step with me.

My agony a prayer, my tears a blessing,
I offered all for you that you may be,
Someday with me and one in Christ united,
In love and joy and peace eternally.
