THE GOOD SAMARITAN - Luke 10:25-37

“I love You Lord,”
How easily the words
Slither like the snake in Eden’s garden,
Reeking of deceit.
I am the Levite and the Priest,
Rolled into one,
For I’ve refused to love,
My neighbor as myself.

Behold the man that I refuse to see,
Cold my contempt for him,
For having left Jerusalem ,
To jaunt in Jericho.
Self righteously I cross the road,
As far away from him as I can get,
Yet I dare to sit upon God’s throne,
Consigning him to hell.

While I make haste lest I be late,
To make my own ascent to Zion.

No time to love my neighbor as myself,
To wash and bathe his wounds,
With the gentle oil of kindness.
I withhold the wine,
Of  my compassion,
I have no unction sweet,
To salve his hurt and heal his heart,
So unlike the Good Samaritan.

TRUST ME - John 14 : 1-6

Be not anxious or distressed,
When trials come your way,
Trust in God and trust in Me,
Believe in all I say.

Remember in my Father’s house,
Are many splendid rooms,
I go ahead for I intend,
To make a place for you.

Remember all I taught you,
Live the Gospel faithfully,
I will return to take you home,
And have you reign with Me.

Take the narrow highway,
Though filled with pain and strife,
At journey’s end I promise friend,
That you will have new life
.

MY NEIGHBOR & I

When I look at my neighbour,
And flaws are all I see,
I sit in hasty judgement,
And wrong him needlessly.

It’s time to turn the mirror,
Of truth that sin has dimmed,
So I can see my neighbour is
More sinned against than sinned.

It’s I who must find answers,
While looking in my soul,
Why all my neighbour says and does,
Irks my spirit so.

I am mean, narrow, petty,
A self-righteous Pharisee,
When looking at my neighbour,
I see no love for him in me.

My neighbour like the publican,
As Jesus pointed out,
Is far more justified than I,
More pleasing before God.

It's only through right judgment
That I will gain my sight,
As the Spirit gently leads me,
From darkness to Christ’s light.

AMAZING LOVE

Greater love than this to us,
Has never been revealed,
When God came down to earth as Man,
So sinners could be freed.
The temple walls shook mightily,
The curtain ripped in two,
  The perfect sacrifice of Christ,
Once more made all things new.

The Scriptures speak of love to me
No clearer can it be,
When reading of the woman
Caught in adultery.
The law of Moses stated,
She should be stoned to death,
But Jesus said, “In Me you’ll find
Nobody is condemned.”

There was another woman,
A harlot in that town,
Who came in uninvited,
To the Pharisee Simon’s house.
Jesus did not care a whit,
For what the guests might think,
As they watched this public sinner,
To her knees before Him sink.

She bathed with tears and kisses,
His feet with deference.
Then with her lovely tresses,
Dried them with reverence.
She broke a jar of perfume,
Anointing Jesus’ feet
Her love and tears brought pardon,
Her sinful heart was healed.

The awesome love of Jesus,
Is free to saint and rogue,
Time and time again we find,
Christ mingling with poor folk,

The filthy, wretched beggar,
the sinner sick with shame,
The widow and abandoned child,
The leper and the lame.

But the haughty and the skeptic,
The powerful and proud,
Will find they’re not invited,
To the banquet of the Lord.
Once the wedding feast is ready,
The trumpets shall resound,
He’ll come in triumph for the Bride,
That from His side was formed.
