God's Little Nothing

Created out of nothing,
He called me by my name,
Blowing on a flicker
And urging it to flame.
God has shaped and moulded,
My body made of clay,
Grafting me to Jesus
So I ‘d never want to stray.

God took this little nothing,
And breathed in me new life,
He took this little trifle,
Conforming me to Christ.
I am God’s little zero,
Sinner though I be,
The Lord of earth and heaven
Says He’s Daddy God to me.

When grief unmitigated,
Had cast a bitter blight,
When agony and loss had left,
A void bereft of light,
In silence and surrender,
My God stooped tenderly,
And touched His little nothing,
In profound simplicity.

I know I am His nothing,
And all He’s given me,
Is not because I’ve earned it,
Nor is it destiny.
All is purely largesse,
On my Father’s part,
He says His tiny zero,
Delights His loving heart.

  3. This is very nice – although when you use the word ‘nothing’ and ‘zero’ I keep hearing ------ quoting: God does not make garbage! You can go ahead and put it on the blog!

  4. Hi Myra,
Very beautiful poem written by a heart which has experienced the ägape love of the Heavenly Father. It is amazing how the Creator of the Universe reaches down to the human soul and fills it with unlimited grace and choicest blessings.
