MORNING VISITATION

Early each morning,
I tryst with my Lord,
Entering His presence
To give glory to God.
Early each morning,
In worship and praise,
My penurious soul,
Brims over with grace.

Early each morning,
My prayers are heard,
Seeking His wisdom,
I ponder His Word.
Early each morning,
Arrayed for the fray,
Showered with blessings,
I meet the new day.

ABIDING PRESENCE

I'm glad I have You Jesus,
To talk with all day through,
In Your abiding Presence,
You draw me close to You.
You listen very closely,
To all I have to say,
Even when I’m querulous,
You never turn away.

You never are distracted,
Never distant, cold, austere,
Each time I cry out 'Jesus,
You say ‘my child I’m here.’
We rendezvous for Matins,
The birds join me in praise,
Before the dawn begins to tint,
The sky a pearly grey.

I’m grateful for Your promise,
To make Your home in me,
No burden is too heavy,
With You for company.
In life I’ll often stumble,
As its twists and bends I wend,
But thru’ it all You’ll be with me,
My everlasting Friend.

HOLY GROUND

You are here,
We meet once more,
You and I
In this sacred place,
This sacred space,
Within my soul.

You in me,
And I in You,
I am on holy ground,
In this sacred place,
This sacred space,
within my soul.

THE HOUR OF PRAYER

I wait for you in silence,
Soul and spirit yearn,
For Your Holy Presence,
My heart begins to burn.

My arid soul is thirsting,
As the deer for running streams,
You give me Living Water,
Refreshing, cool, and clean.

You ask if I will share with You,
The cross I’m called to bear,
You bring me to Mt. Zion,
In my hour of prayer.

ASCENDING MT. TABOR

I ascend Mount Tabor,
Before the blush of day,
In sublime submission,
God stoops to hear me pray.

Tuning out the babble of,
The world so I can hear,
The tender timbre of His Voice,
Dispelling every fear.

In response to grace divine,
I concede control,
To the Living God who is,
The Bridegroom of my soul.

I yield to Him in silence,
I lean upon His breast,
Grace imbues my spirit,
In Him is perfect rest.

On the Wings of Prayer

 All I need is silence,
A heart quiescent and still,
Submitting to Your Spirit,
I gladly yield my will.
Under His direction,
Light and truth are shed,
I gain understanding,
As Your Sacred Word is read.
He sets aflame my senses,
He vivifies my soul,
He breathes new life into me,
My joyous spirit soars.
Ascending to Mount Zion,
I rise on eagle’s wings,
Worshiping the Father,

And exalting You my King.

AWAKE MY SOUL

Awake my soul!
Here comes Your God,
He rides the dawn,
His chariot swifter than the wind,
Scatters the clouds.
He is magnificent,
Brighter than the noon day sun,
He sets the sky ablaze,
With the fire of His love,
Skirting the horizon,
And flaming it from red to gold.
His beauty dims the stars,
And those that tarry
Twinkle shyly pausing for a while,
To catch a lingering glimpse,
Of the God of all creation.
Awake my soul!

LOVE RIDES AT DAWN

Love rides at dawn,
To rouse my soul from sleeping night,
His touch will set  it all aglow,
Enfolding it in light.

The slowly  dying embers,
Of my love  ‘neath ashes gray,
Will be rekindled  once again,
As I begin to pray.

From cinders, He will stir to life,
The flicker to a flame,
He'll cast aside all darkness,
As He gently calls my name.

His love evokes an antiphon,
Of  praise in joyous phrase,
He will imbue and permeate,

My soul with wondrous grace.

This bruised reed is strengthened,
By Him Whom I adore
The unction of His Spirit,
Restores to life once more.

LECTIO DIVINA

Shepherd of my soul,
How good it is to walk with You,
Through verdant pastures.
We journey at my pace,
You let me stop and drink,
From streams of Living Water.
Ever gentle like the sun,
That  wakes the dawn,
You bring to life my inner being.
Oft times a word or verse explodes
It dazzles brighter
Than the noonday sun
Upon my soul
As Scripture comes alive.
How good it is
To linger here with You,
Beloved,
In Lectio Divina.

MOVEMENT OF LOVE

His love for me
 each morning,
As silent as the dawn,
Awakes my quiescent spirit,
Without reserve I am drawn.

His call begins in cadence,
Measured, soft and low,
Moving from key largo,
To swell in crescendo.

My captive spirit urges me,
To raise my heart in prayer,
Surrendering my being,
To my Beloved’s care.

Prostrate before His Majesty,
I sing in joyful praise,
The tabernacle of my heart,
Radiates His grace..

 He knows I am unworthy,
But He  loves me anyway,
With generous abandon,
He blesses me each day.

THE SPIRIT AND I

 A  soft, little  whisper,
A nudge to my soul,
Awake, I get down,
on my knees to the floor.

The Spirit is moving,
Enkindling in me,
A love that will flame,
To a blaze as He breathes.

In the rapt silence,
My  heart swells with praise,
Worship unspoken,
In jubilant phrase.

Aloft like an eagle,
My soul soars on high,
I meet with my God,
On the wings of a sigh.

Communing like Moses
As I face to face,
Encounter my God,
In this Holy Place.

THE WORD AND I

Day has yet to blossom,
Night has yet to pale,
The sky has yet to put away,
Her star embroidered veil.
Dawn will keep its promise,
As it ushers a new day,
Responding to Your call I come,
To watch with You and pray.

My Friend and my Beloved,
How sweet it is to be,
With God who deigns to make Himself
Accessible to me.
On fire with the Spirit,
Love overwhelms my soul,
God Almighty reaches out,
To heal and make me whole.

In reverential silence,
I worship You in awe,
Wonderstruck that I am loved
By You despite my flaws.
Grant me grace dear Jesus,
Sufficient for today,
To take my cross and follow You,
Along the narrow way.

THE HOUR OF PRAYER

You stir my soul each morning,
You fill me with Your grace,
You touch me with Your Spirit,
I am Your dwelling place.

I sit with You in silence,
Your Presence fills my soul,
I confess my sins and You,
Forgive and make me whole.

Your sacred Word inspires,
Assisting me to pray,
Your Holy Spirit leads me,
In worship and in praise.

I then make intercession,
For all my friends in need,
And stooping low You listen,
As I plead and intercede.

Filled with every blessing,
Strong and unafraid,
I go to fight life’s battles
Well armed because I prayed.

THE LORD IS MY SHEPHERD

In the silence of my spirit,
My soul to You I raise,
Prostrate before Your Majesty,
My heart sings hymns of praise.
My inner being sweetly rests,
In pastures fresh and green,
My spirit’s thirst is satisfied,
In waters cool and clean.
The Lord is my good Shepherd,
No evil shall come near,
I know my God walks with me,
His staff strikes down my fears.
I sup at His own table,
I feast on Bread and Wine,
His mercy, love and goodness,
Thru’ all my days are mine.

WALKING ON SUNSHINE

I’m walking on sunshine,
I’m tripping on air,
I met my Beloved,
This morning in prayer.
We’d made an appointment,
I woke up at three,
But to my surprise,
Found Him waiting for me.
I ran to my Savior,
And sat at His feet,
Wrapped in a silence,
Hallowed and sweet.
I praised Him in song,
That flowed without script,
The words effortlessly,
Spilled from my lips.
I wept a little,
And told Him my fears,
He leaned down and gently said,
“Hush, no more tears.
As long as You live
I’ll be here by your side
And promise always,
In your heart to reside.”

IT'S GRACE

It’s Grace that says, “Wake up it’s dawn,” each morning
It’s Grace that whispers gently, “It is time,”
It’s Grace that urges softly, “Do not tarry,”
And Grace alone enables us comply.

From His Spirit grace is overflowing,
Sinful lives are changed by grace divine,
Willing souls by grace are made more holy,
Making Christ our all is His design.

Grace works best in simple, childlike people
Grace works best in people without guile,
Grace at work helps souls grow in perfection,
With every soul Grace walks that extra mile.

Grace, sweet grace is modeled to perfection,
Through each age in history and race,
In our Mother who was greeted by the Angel,
Hailing her as ‘Mary, full of grace.”

EMMANUEL

I come to You each morning,
You fill me with Your grace,
You touch me with Your Spirit,
I am Your dwelling place.

I sit with You in silence,
Your Presence fills my soul,
I ask forgiveness for my sins,
And once again I’m whole.

You listen to my sorrows,
You wipe away my tears,
You talk to me and comfort me,
You chase away my fears.

My God, You are Emmanuel,
And I will never be,
Alone or lonely for Your Word,
Deigns to reign in me.

MORNING GLORY

My eyes gaze on a pearl grey dawn,
While dying night still slumbers on,
My lips sing soft a song of praise,
My Lord I come to seek Your Face.

O Living Waters wash me clean,
And lead me on to pastures green,
In You my soul finds its sweet rest,
My heart’s own gracious, royal Guest.

I lift my soul to You and pray,
For grace sufficient for the day,
And every dream and joy and tear,
I offer with my hopes and fears.

Hold me now in Your embrace
With You at last I’m home and safe,
No harm can touch me when I’m one,
With Jesus Christ God’s only Son.

Together we have watched and prayed,
An hour my Lord with You I’ve stayed,
From Tabor’s heights I now descend,
To serve You Lord in every friend.

THE LITTLE PEARL

I pick a pearl of wisdom,
From God’s treasury,
And marvel at the many ways,
Its beauty speaks to me.

As I ponder on the Word,
My spirit glows within,
To know God loves the sinner,
Although He hates the sin.

I place my pearl of wisdom,
With the others in my soul,
And make myself a promise,
To reflect on it once more.

Next day at quiet time alone
With God, I realise,
I thought not once about the pearl,
I had so highly prized.

Although I did not think about
The Word that I had read,
I pray I lived its truth in all
I said and did instead.

MORNING TRYST

While the sparrows are still sleeping,
And the morning star glows bright,
While the sky is blushing softly,
In dawn’s caressing light.

The Holy Spirit gently,
Awakens me from sleep
Reminding me the hour has come
My rendezvous to keep.

The time I spend with Jesus,
Is filled with grace and charm.
He speaks to me eloquently
In the Gospels and the Psalms.

The time is swiftly over
Its time for us to part
But not before He fills me
With rich treasures from His Heart.
